We attended the potluck breakfast with the High Desert Rig Runners and then Denis and I checked the "Aux Start" relay on our motorhome. It is bad, but in an inconvenient place to change, so will wait till we get home and have warmer weather there. We attended the High Desert Rig Runners meeting. They tentatively planned next years meetings, including Quartzsite in January. Marjorie volunteered to be wagonmaster for Quartzsite and arrange for camping at the Main Event. We left the camp ground around 1:00 PM and went to Yucca Valley for gas. First place didn't take credit cards, spent about 20 minutes getting turned around and another 20 minutes fueling. The grade out of Yucca Valley was really steep, something we would see several times later in the day. We went through Victorville and cut across to Lancaster without problem. We got to Lancaster about 5:00 PM and since there was a nice campground advertised with a laundry, we thought we would stop. Although they have a nice WEB site, the place was a dive. We continued on and went thru Antelope Valley which we really enjoyed, a really beautiful place. We hit the I5 and went over Tejon Pass and down the Grapevine grade, several miles with a very steep grade and several runaway truck turnouts. We continued on over Hwy 166 to Santa Maria and then picked up Hwy 101 to Arroyo Grande. We got there about 8:20 PM and 320 miles from Joshua Tree. We went to the Walmart and even though there were signs stating no over night occupency of RVs, Cathy asked inside and they said they didn't care if we parked over night, but the city was against it. We decided to try, as there were several other RVs in the lot. We layed down in out clothes and went to sleep. At 11:25 a security guard knocked on our door and said we had better leave. The police ticket you first for $50, then knock on your door and give you five minutes to leave. If you aren't gone in five minutes they lock your RV and have it towed. We asked if there were any truck stops and he said no. We took off up Hwy 101 and turned off at Santa Margarita and found a Cal Trans Park and Ride parking lot. We pulled in, walked the dog and went to bed.
