We left Morow Bay on a beautiful sunny day and drove north on Hwy 1 along the ocean.  Some beautiful ocean views.  We then cut across the mountains thru Los Padres National Forest to King City.  The canyons were green and beautiful.  From King City we took Hwy 25 to Pinnacles National Monument, where we camped for the night.  When we stopped to register, there were two deer in the parking lot.  We went into Hollister, 32 miles north of the monument and visited Cathy's cousins Rick and Linda and their mother Merilee and her friend John.  We had a nice turkey dinner and Cathy caught upy on that side of the family.  We were on our way home when the gas light went on, so decided we had better turn around and get gas.  They have very strange turn lanes in Hollister, so I was driving slow looking for a place to turn around.  I finally made a left into a residential area and saw that they had a center island for a long way, so I made a U turn in front of the island.  A sheriff's car materialized out of nowhere.  I got out and a very nice officer asked if I was lost.  He said he had been watching me drive slowly.  I told him I needed to get gas and he even offered to get some for me.  I told him I had enough to get to a station and he took off.
