Started out from just west of Sonora, TX where we spent the night at a Rest Stop. Stopped down the road at Junction, TX for gas $3.23/gal. Stopped at a Picnic Spot on I10 for the 10:00 AM ODNA meeting. Got off I10 at MM477 and onto US290. It is almost all four lanes. The Hill Country is really beautiful. We stopped at the LBJ State and Federal Parks and took the bus tour. Really worth the stop. Saw LBJ's place of birth, his school house and his ranch house. At the place of birth we also saw the cemetery where the whole family is buried, including the beagles. Saw the barn he built with a drive thru section down the middle so he could take people on tours without getting out of the Lincoln 4 Door Convertible. Saw the hangar and landing strip, Secret Service Office and three network offices. Mailed post cards to Kayla and Savannah from Hye, TX, just east of the ranch. LBJ swore in the Post Master General at the Hye post office. The Hill Country was settled by Germans and our tour guide grew up with German as his first language. Fredricksburg looked like a nice town to spend some time in. There are a lot of peach and pecan markets along the US290. There also are a lot of wineries. We drove on thru Austin in rush hour traffic and then stopped at 8:00 PM at an RV park in Carmine, TX. Too dark to see what it looks like, but the man who helped us park and his dog, RV were very friendly. It was sunny most of the day, but very windy and cool in the 50's.
