We left Savannah at 12:15 PM and drove up I16 and I75 to High Falls State Park about half way between Macon and Atlanta, Georgia.  It is the site of a town with a mill and other manufacturing that failed when the railroad bypassed it for Jackson, GA.   The mill was burned by the Confederate Troops to prevent the Union troops from getting flour and supplies stored there and then rebuilt in 1866.  The Towaliga Power Company built a dam and power plant in 1890 to power the mill and plants.  It was run until October 27, 1958.  It was turned over to the Hiawassee Timber Company who donated it and the 650 acre lake and some surrounding land to the Georgia Game and Fish Commission who turned it over to the State Parks Department in 1966, thus forming the park.  We were lucky to get a site for two nights.  All the parks are full and the ranger said it has been this way for a month.
