The nice weather has ended. This morning it was over cast and windy. We spent the night at Walmart in Carlsbad, NM. The over night low was 53 degrees and the high for the day was 75 degrees. All day long the wind was about 20 mph. At 9:00 AM we went to Carlsbad Caverns National Park Carlsbad Caverns National Park, 27 miles to the west from Carlsbad, NM. The last 7 miles a winding road up a canyon. We went into the cavern by way of the natural entrance. It was a 1 mile walk into the canyon and descending 750 ft to the Big Room. It is always 56 degrees and about 90% humidity in the cave. There is a snack bar, store and rest rooms at the 750 ft level. We took the elevator back to the surface. I was planning on returning to Carlsbad for my UND ODNA meeting, but I had 2 Mb data and full strength cell phone signal, so decided to do it in the national park parking lot. Cathy did scoring while I communicated with UND. I had problems with my Blackberry, so only heard about 15 minutes of the meeting. At 4:00 PM we left the park and headed east with the intention of getting to Big Spring, TX. The wind was strong from the north and we were heading east. Stopped at Hobbs, NM for gas. $2.73 gallon. I was using the GPS and it took me a strange route around Lamesa, TX. Got on a narrow, paved road almost covered with water from the rain. Going east we were on US-82/US-180 and once we got to Lamesa we went south on US-87, a 4 lane hiway with the wind to our back. Got to Big Spring at 9:30 PM MST, but Big Spring is CST. We are spending the night at Walmart. We went into Walmart and bought a few things, including Lone Star Beer.
